If you don’t know who Tim Tebow is you likely have never watched college football and/or were under a rock between 2006 and 2010 and that’s okay. Tebow gained his fame first by playing Quarterback for the University of Florida, The Gators under famed Coach Urban Meyer. Tebow has two BCS championships to his name. The first was in 2006 when Tebow was not the starting QB but an important part of that BCS championship team. The second was in 2008 where Tebow as the starting QB lead his team to victory in the BCS championship game. In between those years Tebow was no slouch. In 2007 he broke or set multiple records that season and was the winner of the outstanding all-around player, otherwise known as the “Heisman”. Tebow also took home the “Davey O’Brien” award for “Outstanding Quarterback”. Tebow was then drafted to the Nation Football League (NFL) in 2010 by the Denver Broncos in the first round. Tebow was the backup for QB Kyle Orton until Orton lost the starting role 5 games into the season. Tebow had a respectable rest of the year and even helped the Broncos make it into the playoffs. Besides the Tebow “Tebowing” celebration (a one knee prayer in the end zone), Tebow had one other memorable moment. Tebow took his team to victory over the Pittsburg Steelers in the wildcard game before losing to the Dynasty that was the New England Patriots. Even after the playoff berth and wildcard win Tebow was traded to the jets that off season. From the Jets Tebow didn’t play much and eventually was released by the Jets when no other team would trade for him. Tebow’s NFL career was pretty much over. Tebow went on to do other things including playing minor league baseball but for all accounts he was done with football.
So why in the heck should you care about Tebow in 2021?
That is a really good question to ask about a 33 year old (young but hella old in football years) former QB. I’ll answer that question for you here. For starters, Tebow is currently battling for a roster spot on the Jacksonville Jaguars. You might say, there’s no way he’s getting a spot at QB they just drafted Trevor Lawrence #1 overall in the draft. You’d be right about that but this QB has turned himself into a Tight End. Who do the Jacksonville Jaguars have at coach, Urban Meyer of course. Tebow will be reunited with Meyer in Florida once again. Finally and most importantly you should care about Tebow because if he scores a touchdown by catching just one pass from Trevor Lawrence I, many others and potentially you will be gifted a giveaway from “SZN” (@thesznapp on Twitter and sznapp.co) a sports fan group website (visit them for specific rules). Thanks right, if Trevor Lawrence throws just one touchdown to Tebow then we all win the giveaway.
Here is our plan to win
Which does involve ensuring Tebow is cared about, at least in the beginning. Easy steps, follow along.
1) Be sure to follow the entry rules set by SZN. (They are easy, follow them on twitter, like that particular post and retweet it an your eligible to win).
A. The more people who are in the loop the better chance for the next steps to work.
2) We must talk about this Lawrence to Tebow TD giveaway on our socials a lot.
A. The idea is to make sure Tebow, Lawrence and Meyer are all aware of the need for a Tebow/Lawrence connection.
b. Use hashtag #LawrenceTebowTD on all of your post
3) Design a play for offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and passing game Coordinator Brian Schottenheimer. They must see and use it or at least scheme for the duo to give the Lawrence Tebow connection a chance.
Lets go, what’s next?
I’ve completed steps 1 and 2 and plan to continue step 2 over and over. Step 3 comes now. Here is a play designed for the Jaguars to get Tebow a TD catch from Lawrence. This play is designed for the REDZONE offense because that’s where I see Tebow getting a chance.
In developing these plays I have taken just 3 big rocks into consideration.
1) What does Lawrence do best inside the REDZONE? Trevor has yet to play a snap in the NFL so we’ll find out how good he is or isn’t as the season progresses. According to the guys and gals at 1Primetimesportstalk.com Lawrence scored an overall 90.5/100 on their Draft scouting report (that’s pretty good). That score didn’t drill down into his REDZONE ability. Lawrence also had surgery on his non-throwing shoulder and is projected to have a 4-5 month recovery time. By all reports during the open OTAs in May, Lawrence struggled in the REDZONE practice by overthrowing guys, throwing into pass breakups, etc. Take that for what its worth as its likely no indication of what will come in the weeks ahead. All stats and performance on film say Lawrence doesn’t throw interceptions, is mobile for a 6’6” QB, is accurate at each level and can make any throw.
2) Who is their week 1 opponent and what do they tend to do in the REDZONE? Week one will send Tim Tebow (if he makes the 53) and the Jaguars to the Houston Texans on September 12, 2021 at 10am local. Right now the Texans and new Head Coach David Culley don’t even know if Deshaun Watson will be playing amongst his push for a trade, a hold out or possible outcomes related to 22 active lawsuits filed against the star QB. Of course, that’s on offense and has little bearing on the task at hand (getting Tebow a touchdown catch thrown by Lawrence). Houston has switched their base defense for the first time since 2010. Houston will go from a 3-4 to a 4-3 base with new Defensive Coordinator Lovie Smith. Houston’s defense was 30th overall in 2020 and could not get to the QB with pressures or sacks. When it comes to REDZONE TDs allowed in 2020 the Texans were at the bottom of the NFL. They also shipped off JJ Watt to Arizona. With the need for wins and a pass rush I see Lovie drawing up plenty of LB blitz’s and stunts. This is all good news for the Jags and a Lawrence to Tebow TD in week one.
3) What does Tebow do best at TE in the REDZONE? This is the great unknown. TE is new for Tebow and he hasn’t played in the NFL since well, forever ago. Tebow is listed at 6’3” and typically 230 lbs. I do not see Tebow as a 50/50 ball guy, he’s not a jump ball guy, he’s not a beat you off of the line guy, he won’t runaway from most linebackers, he’s not going to be a fluid route runner either. I see Tebow as being best used against a defense with deception to create a hole for him to run to on a timed throw.
Lawrence to Tebow TD week one using the following
Based on the 3 big rocks I laid out above here is the LOW- REDZONE TD play (between the 10 yard line and goal line). Urban Meyer loves the fade and back shoulder fade but Tebows not that guy. I outline a simple route concept in the REDZONE vs that 4-3 goaline and that’s the point, simple. This is a true Goaline, three Tight End, Jumbo package. See the diagram below. Strong side left with two tight ends. On the weak side Tebow is positioned at the end of the line of scrimmage next to the right tackle’s hip. Two backs in the backfield (fullback using DT/DE package as option #1 to show extra heavy). Fullback to the weak side. Lawrence in shotgun splitting the offset backs. Hard sell on play action to the halfback who then blocks weak side. The Full back runs a shallow flat taking the defender with him. Lawerence with a short bootleg to the weak side after play action. Tebow shows block to the DE for a 2 count then runs an arrow behind the flat defender. Lawerence, of course sells the flat to the defender to keep him close to the fullback giving Tebow enough room and throws with touch over the flat defenders head for an easy completion. Then, you guessed it, TOUCHDOWN Trevor Lawrence to Tim Tebow and we all win the SZN. Twitter giveaway.
What’s the SZN Giveaway?
Now that we are all onboard to care about Tim Tebow this season (at least through week 1) what’s the giveaway? According to a tweet from SZN @thesznapp on Saturday July 24, 2021 they will giveaway a NFL Jersey of our choice. There are basic parameters set out by SZN and they are as follows:
“2If Trevor Lawrence Throws 1+ regular season touchdown pass to Tim Tebow this season, we’ll buy every person who likes and retweets this tweet an NFL Jersey of their choice. (Must be following us to claim)”
Now that’s pretty bold by SZN even if the likelihood of this happening is relatively low. As I write this article almost 70,000 have liked their tweet and about 50,000 have retweeted their tweet. I think its safe to assume the average NFL jersey of a popular player is about 3$100. If we also assume that everyone who retweeted their tweet also followed their page and liked the tweet then … they are already looking at approximately 5 million in jerseys to buy and giveaway.
The Jags need to be onboard in order to give us a better chance to win.
Lets remember step 2 from earlier.
“2) We must talk about this Lawrence to Tebow TD giveaway on our socials a lot.
A. The idea is to make sure Tebow, Lawrence and Meyer are all aware of the need for a Tebow/Lawrence connection.”
This is critical for the Jaguars to scheme for Tebow. And why wouldn’t they scheme for Tebow, he’s a local legend, he’s great for ticket and jersey sales, throw him a bone in week one. If it doesn’t work in week one there is always week 6 vs Miami in Europe. So what Jersey are you going to get, leave your answer in the comments.
